Mayodan Man Killed In Saturday Night Accident

From Rockingham County – the North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that one person was killed in a single vehicle accident that happened late Saturday night.

According to the Rockingham County office of the Highway patrol, the wreck happened Saturday night at 11:49 on the Longhook Road. 41-year-old Ernest Lee Lewis of 401 N 3rd Avenue in Mayodan was listed as the deceased.

According to the report by Trooper A.B. Carter, Lewis was driving a 2005 Chevrolet.  The vehicle was traveling south on Longhook Road when it ran off the right side of the road. Lewis apparently over-corrected, then ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree on the passenger side. The report indicates that Lewis was not wearing a seat-belt and was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries.

There were no other passengers or vehicles involved, and at this point, investigators don’t know if impairment was involved.

The investigation continues by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
