James Scott Witherow II, a former investigator with the Martinsville Police Department, has been charged in the shooting of his wife, Marleen S. Carter, on Sunday, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police, as well as the city police department.
Star News has now obtained a mugshot of Witherow, provided by the Martinsville City Police Department.
Witherow, age 70, of 701 Corn Tassel Trail, Martinsville, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Sunday on charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, both felonies, according to a report at the police department. Witherow is being held on a $5,000 secured bond in the Martinsville City Jail.
According to the release, Carter was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for undisclosed injuries. The shooting happened about 2:25 p.m. Sunday at the residence at 701 Corn Tassel Trail, according to the city police report.
