An Eden man has been arrested for the Saturday morning attempted robbery of a convenience store in the city. But according to police, he didn’t give up so easily.
52-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Corum was arrested on Tuesday by detectives with the Eden Police Department. He is charged with the attempted robbery of Petty’s Mini Mart, located on Morgan Road.
According to Lt. Clint Simpson, chief of detectives for the Eden Police Department, Corum was identified as the alleged suspect in the robbery because of leads generated through the news media and social media sources that aired photos and video of the robbery. On Tuesday, investigators were able to obtain a warrant for Corum’s arrest for Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
Lt. Simpson said that investigators attempted to serve the warrant on Jeffrey Corum at his home on NC Highway 87 in Eden, but Corum fled from the officers and ran into a nearby wooded area.
Eden officers received help from deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Approximately one hour later, the officers located Corum on Kingston Road outside of the Eden city limits, and he was taken into custody.
Jeffrey Corum was taken before a magistrate who set his bond on the charge at $25,000 secured. His court date was set for September 10th in Rockingham County District Court.
The attempted robbery was captured on surveillance video. In the video, a man, described as a white male in dark clothing entered the store with a knife and demanded money before attempting to pull the cash register off a counter. He then fled the scene on foot.
