Moped Accident Preston Rd Henry County VA

Henry County, VA – The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal traffic crash that occurred yesterday afternoon around 1:00 pm on Route 687 one and a half miles north of Route 58 in Henry County. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1975 Craftsman moped was traveling northbound on Route 687 when a 1997 international rollback wrecker was attempting to pass the moped. The operator of the moped turned left into the rollback wrecker and was struck.

The moped operator Matthew Scott Thompson, age 17, of Henry, Va. was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina where he died from his injuries. Thompson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
