A man from Chatham was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly trying to rob a convenience store.
According to Devin Taylor, spokesman for the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at around 6:30 on Friday morning. Deputies responded to Amos Grocery, located at 2472 Sago Road, and the store’s owner told officers that a masked individual armed with a knife entered the business and demanded money. But in-turn, the owner store’s owner produced a weapon of his own, and the would-be robber fled the scene.
Deputies and Investigators arrived at the scene and began a search for the robbery suspect. A K-9 tracked to a residence, and Sheriff’s investigators spoke to 24-year-old Kevin Lyn Dalton of 1039 Museville Road in Chatham. He was taken into custody and arrested without incident. Dalton was charged with the breaking and entering of Amos Grocery with the intent to commit murder, rape or robbery. He was also charged with possession or transportation of a concealed weapon. Dalton is currently in the Pittsylvania County Jail under no bond.
